The situation is just intolerable.
There have been a lot of really insightful write-ups recently. A broader perspective—and I almost cringe to say—catch-all by Molly Crabapple left me gasping for breath. This write up, by Elizabeth Sampat giving her thoughts on an industry that’s very dear to me, delivered the final blow and left me in tears.
It’s really rare that I create from a place of grief. It’s just not how I operate. But it’s largely what I have openly felt for the last few days, and reflecting on it, it’s been there for far longer.
This quote from Elizabeth’s piece— “We should have a war memorial for all of the women we have lost to this. We should lay flowers and grieve and see our reflections in stone.”— struck a very literal chord in me.
So yeah, here it is. A place just for me where I can light a candle and remember all of the wonderful people I probably will never get the chance to meet.  Folks that have been driven away by these horrible fucks that have the audacity to think they know what gaming and community is about.
en memoriam.

I have never, in my life, been ashamed to call myself a gamer. Until now. These misogynist little shitbags are a disgrace to our community.
All of us who care about gaming need to step up and save our community, while there is still something about it that’s worth saving.

Yeah, it’s belated and all, but Wil and others are right. Gamergate is based on bigotry and an expectation of privilege. Gamergaters are OK with women in games, as long as it’s on their own terms. Guess what? Nobody owns gaming, so feminists are allowed to be gamers, and take part in gaming if they want.

PSA: Don’t take, much less send, naked pictures of yourself.

I’ve been reading in tech news that Hunter Moore, the sociopath who apparently thinks the only problem with his old site, (http://isanyoneup.com, now owned by an anti-bullying site), is that it wasn’t run well enough, is starting a new “revenge porn site”, where people submit naked pictures of someone, along with links to their Facebook profile. (I’m avoiding any direct, or indirect links to the new site).

This is an important time for a public service announcement:

The ONLY way to guarantee compromising/naked pictures of yourself don’t end up public on the internet is not to take them, and definitely never to send them to anyone at all.

In this age, unless you want those pictures to show up publicly on the internet at some point, never, ever send naked/compromising pictures of yourself to anyone. Just because you trust that person doesn’t mean they will be trustworthy with those pictures. Are you both using strong passwords, or any at all, on your phone and backup accounts? Even if they never intend it, their (or your) phone may be stolen, hacked or lost, or they may have a moment of stupidity. It’s surprisingly easy for some online accounts, where those kinds of pictures may be backed up, to be hacked.

Remember, once those kinds of pictures are public, they can never be taken back. They will haunt you for the rest of your life. This guy Hunter Moore is a disgusting sociopath, as he specifically wants any pictures linked to your Facebook, so that everyone will know they are yours. Statistically, sexting is far too common among teens, who do not realize the danger they put themselves in. There have been multiple suicides when girls, in particular, became bullied over pictures they thought would stay private.

Now, anyone who has ever received these kinds of pictures should do the right thing and delete them, and all copies, NOW. They are a dangerous liability and temptation. If they are of someone under 18, you should have deleted them RIGHT AWAY, as you can be charged with being in possession of child pornography, including becoming a registered sex offender, simply by having them, and with distributing child pornography if you share them with anyone (even if you’re under 18, too). I repeat, if you have any compromising pictures of anyone else, go do the right thing for both of you and delete them right now. For heaven’s sake, never, ever, EVER do something has horrific and cruel as share them or submit them to a site like Hunter Moore’s. No one deserves that, no matter how much they’ve hurt you.

Let me repeat: The ONLY way to prevent this danger is to never take those pictures in the first place. Just don’t.

Why I’m Glad Romney Lost (Spoiler: It’s not really about Romney)

Really, I don’t think Romney would have been a terrible president. I think he would have probably been lackluster, and not nearly the fiscal conservative he campaigned as, but, overall, not awful.

That said, I’m glad he lost.

It’s not because of Romney, but because of the political maneuvering that was done to try to pave the way for a Republican president. The obvious obstructionist behavior by the GOP over the past few years has made it clear that they put a higher priority on getting a Republican president elected than getting things done. Congress has been more about putting on a show than getting things done.

It didn’t work, and that’s a very, very good thing for all of us. Imagine if that became the new norm. Democrats then obstructing all major conservative proposals in order to work to get Romney out after one term, and Republicans doing the same once Romney is out.

A paralyzed, chaotic legislature focused more on setting up their party to win the executive branch, rather than do their own jobs. As bad as Congress is now, it would only have gotten worse if Romney had won. Let’s all be glad that the strategy failed.

silver-adventure said: How is it there now? I hope you guys are fighting back. The white population are declining because of the rapes and tortures. Any good news? Are there some open minded blacks who love whites and trying to defend whites too? What's the government doing? Are they planning to lessen the immigrant or be more strict against them? It makes me sad cause I wanted to visit there but the news stopped me, it scared me. How's the white genocide? :(

In the US, the “white”, non-hispanic population is rising, not falling. No-where in the world is the white population declining due to “rapes and tortures”, either. Even in South Africa, where the “white” population is falling, it’s due to emigration, which has a lot to do with the fact that they went from being in charge to an ethnic minority. Some countries in Europe are also experiencing falling “white” populations, thanks to a low birth rate, but that’s a whole different cultural issue.

So, to answer your question, there is no “white genocide”, so things aren’t too bad.
